New Image from James Webb Space Telescope Reveals Unseen Features of Milky Way’s Centre

The James Webb Space Telescope has captured a new image of the core of our galaxy, the Milky Way, revealing features that have never been seen before and are still mysterious to scientists. The telescope focused on an area called Sagittarius C (Sgr C), which is about 300 light-years away from Sagittarius A*, the huge black hole at the center of the galaxy. The image shows the area with unprecedented clarity and detail, allowing astronomers to study it in new ways.

One of the new features that the James Webb Space Telescope image reveals is the high density of stars in the galactic center, which is estimated to be around 500,000. Among these stars, there is a group of protostars, which are stars that are still in the process of forming. The most massive protostar in this group is 30 times the mass of our Sun. The image also shows a large emission of ionized hydrogen along the lower edge of a cloud that blocks the infrared light. Astronomers are eager to explore these features and learn more about how stars are born.

“This is the first time we have infrared data on this region with such high resolution and sensitivity, so we are seeing many things here for the first time,” said Samuel Crowe, the leader of the observation team, in a press release. “The image from Webb is amazing, and the science we will get from it is even better.”
